Ritualist OK, Assassin still underpowered
Well it's been a few months since Factions was released and I find that the Rt is quite good and balanced and that lots of teams run it in HA. However the Assassin is still underpowered. It's not that it doesn't do enough damage, it's just that its defense is pitiful and I daresay, it dies easier than even a mesmer despite being a close range melee fighter class. I seldom see Assassins being used in HA and I believe this reflects their underpoweredness.

If that meant anything, Warrior/Rangers would be the most overpowered combination in the game (if you're using IWAY and a weak pet, then, you would be even more overpowered than Mending, and everyone knows how hard that is).
Go to the GW website and check the builds used by the guilds in the latest play offs. See those assassins there?

I think they are just fine, its just too many people think they are underpowered and everyone gangs on them. I always do alliance battles as a monk and once i had 2 w/r and 1 a/me I had to heal the warriors more than I did the assassin and the assassin was in combat more. He was smart and played well with return. I think it depends on the people playing the assassin and the people against them. Making their defense higher would be like giving warriors 2 elites.

A class that draws most of its strength from positioning and movement is not very strong in HA? Shocking.

I think a few more defensive skills would be nice, but assasins do some nice damage.

I was about to post that exact same thing.
It would be more of a GvG profession, however I would like to see more people attempting to run it in tombs =P

would be fun to run a full assasin build, each picking their own target and killing said target in a matter of seconds.

I agree on the fact that people have No idea how to use them and all the idea that they suck, wich is truly false,
assassins are one of the best Profsions in the game it dosnt matter what armor you have, it matters what skills you use and you know how to use them, the problem is No one knows how to use them, i've seen it in the GW factions preview for random arenas, ive seen it in pve.
assassins were built by useing skill combos, same as W/r Iway build uses combos to kill easyer and faster, the thing is Iway is OUT OF DATE, to many anti-iway builds out there.
I rest my point on that issue.
assassins ment to be played by more andvaced players, AKA non morons...
ps great to be un-banned... learnd my lession.

Having been killed by an Assassin in less than 5 seconds with my Healing Monk in an Alliance Battle i don't think they are underpowered at all. Tho i don't do HA that often so i can't really say much about that. The combo was quick and deadly and not having much interest in the class thus not knowing its skills.. i was PAWNt fast. unfortunately for me i met the same assassin while defending the Res point at Etnaran's and he killed me again.. i think he killed me at least 5 times during that battle I went boon prot from then on :P

If you are jumped on by a good assassin on your own, there isn't anything you can do that'll save your butt, even as boon protect (I guess COP is the only thing that can really save you for a few more seconds). Healers without any evade stand no chance without support.

Assassins arent underpowered, its the community that makes them seem underpowered. Assassin is a hard class to play, for sure. But if you have an assassin on your team that know what there doing, they can be very powerful. Yes, assassins have a low defence, but there not meant to tank. All an assassin has to do is get into the middle of a battle, do their attacks, and get out. AoD and Recall are fine examples of good skills. So basically shadow stepping makes up for their low defence. Anyways, if you get a good assassin on your team and they do there job, you'll notice there good.

Explain to me how a 5-hit, 3 second kill is underpowered. Assassins are amazing (in pvp). Yeah i guess they suck in pve.

The assasins arent underpowered - any little buff would make them broken. The only issue they MIGHT have is that they are best suited for gvg (almost perfect for that) and that the rest types of gameplay doesn't support assasin playstyle that well. Battles are just to crowded and chaotic in arenas/pve/HA to make real advantage of assasin strategic abilities.

They're very good in PvE as well, if used correctly.
They are bad in HA, as stated, because their skills don't scale with number of allies or number of enemies.

If I didn't totally missintepret what I read the OP especially mentioned that the main problem isn't the damage but defense which is subpar compared with other professions. Stand corrected folks.

Your kidding right? A healer doesn't stand much of a chance, but Boon Prot... 1 Reversal of Fortune if your quick before Horns hits. 1 when you get back up and a Mend Ailment. Grats you've just healed yourself about 300 and the assassin has either AoD'd off of is getting pounded by your teammates.
Assassins are great fun for Thunderhead Keep. Just wander round the edges of the fort, AoD out, kill the odd Mursaat or White Mantle and come back.
